THE CHESSBOARD

Working in religious demonology means you work both in the actual confrontations, which are simple, and in the social world of humans, which is not. It is like being on that chessboard that God and the devil sit at, playing each other, trying to "capture" as many souls as they can. As a student of the human mind and behavior it is very interesting to be on this chessboard. The war between good and evil isn't always fought in an exorcism.

Some people work for evil, some for good. The people who are really working for evil are not going to tell the world they work for evil, that would work counter to their self-interest. Some explicitly made a deal with the devil for things in this life, some are just selfish and careless.

We know this because they come to us all the time. It's usually toward the end of their life when the devil comes to collect his due and they want an "out".

Jesus had some great advice about how to discern who someone is working for: know them by their fruits. What fruits do you see in their own life and those they touch? Do they lead people toward God and freedom or sneak the devil in and get "points" for destroying their spiritual life? Is there a good feeling about them and grace moving in their life or aggressive distrust and backstabbing to seize power from others because God isn't caring for them with his grace?
