Recently there have been some strong reactions, criticisms, and attacks on my work with the Church and my personal life. Since there is no mechanism to address these attacks with the larger church I am writing this here as an easy reference. I'll list the various charges and what may be behind them, as well as what has actually transpired. I'm not sharing this information out of ego, if anything it is a testimony to how Jesus uses imperfect instruments, of which I am certainly one. I'll add more as this list grows.

"Adam Blai shouldn't be involved in helping exorcists, he is only a layman!"

Over a number of years of working closely with a number of diocese I have been trained by exorcists in the United States, Spain, and Italy. This includes training with the International Association of Exorcists in Italy where many of the most experienced exorcists in the world meet. I've assisted at dozens of Roman Catholic solemn exorcisms and been an ongoing assistant to a number of exorcists. My understanding and formation has been examined many times over the years by some of the most highly trained exorcists in the world.

I've been trained in deliverance prayer and have assisted the Church with deliverance work for many cases over a number of years.

I've taught a course on demonology for priests at a seminary for the Church.

I helped put on a conference in 2006 on deliverance and exorcism with the Bishop's permission as part of committee that included the head exorcist for the United States and some of the best priest authorities on deliverance in the world. Recently I put on a second conference under a Bishop's authority where three members of the IAE spoke, including a member of the governing board of the association.

I agree that it is unusual for a layperson to be so involved in exorcism ministry. However, the work that has organically evolved over time, always with the permission and oversight of the Church, has borne good fruit and I make no apology for it. I am ready to withdraw from this work and teaching at any time if the Church wishes.

"Adam shouldn't be speaking at paranormal conferences!"

Part of my ministry over the years has been to reach out to the people involved in the paranormal craze going on in this country. There are literally thousands of groups of young people getting involved in ghosthunting with little to no knowledge or formation in dealing with spirits (they are simply modeling what they see on TV). From the first conference I've spoken on "Religious demonology from a Roman Catholic perspective" or "Psychology and the Paranormal" (where I discuss the many things mistaken for spiritual experiences that are merely psychology). At every conference some people quit the paranormal, some Catholics come up and thank me for teaching them the rules of their faith in these matters. Though I do not judge or tell people what to do I've seen a number of people convert to Christianity or Catholicism over the years. There is at least one person leaving the paranormal and writing a book about her deliverance and the impact of prayer and the information I shared with her.

As a secondary worldly reality, speaking represents my only income with which to cover the expenses of being involved in this ministy. There is no money involved, ever, in the work I do with people or the Church and I had to give up full time employment to have the time and energy to serve in these areas. I wish I were independently wealthy but that is not the case, I really am living on providence and the few speaking engagements I can do each year.

"Adam lives in a demon infested hotel, he is obviously a terrible person!"

I live in a room in an old hotel that is a private residence of a friend of mine, for almost nothing. The hotel has been a kind of artists retreat run by my friend Blair. There was one local artist who lived here who went through a dark time in his life and painted a lot of demonic paintings. He is now a devout Christian and no longer lives here. I do think there is a residual bad presence in his old room but it has no effect (in my opinion) on the hotel. I've blessed the building many times with permission from my friend. There are Crucifixes, religious books, images of Christ, as well as art donated from many people from all over the country. The hotel is not an evil place. Artists go through hard times and I've been here to provide counsel and prayer for a number of people that had spiritual difficulties. I don't judge or preach but my friends all know my position and what I do. There are fruits from these contacts (some with people that affect millions with their music and writing) that are positive. Finally, a paranormal group from New York filmed an investigation here with the owners permission. I did not participate in the investigation but provided comments on camera revealing the dangers of paranormal investigating and warnings about the demonic.

I am not a priest or a saint, just a lay person with a little bit of a regular life left after all of the things I'm involved with for the Church. I'm an artist and have artist friends and I don't limit them to Catholics or even Christians. I try to be as strict as possible in my personal life but I fail, as we all do. I also need some down time and friends to hang out with when I'm not dealing with demons. Hopefully people can understand that.

"Adam has appeared in a paranormal TV show!"

Please read the essay linked to the right about my appearance on that show. Basically I was searching for answers as a psychology student and brain researcher. Once I found it was a spiritual issue I left that life track and started my training with the Church. Hopefully one can imagine exploring something in life and correcting your life path based on new information.

Finally please allow me to add a few autobiographical words here:

I was born and raised Catholic, was baptised, confirmed, and participate in all the sacraments. I went to Catholic school until grade 9 and public school after that. Most of college was spent in a more secular life. Once I realized the paranormal was a spiritual issue I went down the Church path while speaking to the paranormal community about the truth as I see it. I've been an artist (art runs in my family) all my life and have many artist friends. I live a single life and have given up the path of family because the spiritual work I'm involved in can be dangerous to all those close to one. I wish I were called to the priesthood or religious life but it is pretty clear my role is as a lay person in support of the Church and educating the public. I am not perfect and never claimed to be so, but I am trying to do the most I can in my time to do good and help people.
